Mastering the temporal dimension involves being able to stay in the present experience, suspending judgment and observing what is there, without neglecting past experience, nor losing sight of future goals.
An imbalance of attention on past time can lead to rumination on mistakes, unaddressed choices, regrets and remorse, resulting in negative emotions of anger and sadness; focusing excessively on the future, on the other hand, can trigger concerns about impending deadlines or achieving goals, and anxiety will be the predominant emotion.
Being able to integrate past, present, and future in the right measure allows for greater effectiveness in facing obstacles and difficulties.
