What it involves
We live in a world where experiencing pain, distress, suffering is not something “acceptable”. One must always be in shape, “at the top”, productive.
Do you feel anxious? Do you feel sad?
Just one pill and everything passes. In this framework, when suffering becomes difficult to bear and manage, we feel wrong, ‘abnormal’.
When we get sick, we experience pain or discomfort in some area of our body; and such pain is a source of information, it is a signal from our body that something is not functioning as it should, and that therefore it is necessary to stop to understand what is wrong.
Distress is the expression in psychological form of pain; and for this reason we must not be frightened, nor must we fight it as an enemy, but it is useful to listen to it.
